I just want to let people know about an online self-management course I have just completed in the past 6 weeks.

The expert patient programme is open to anyone with a long term illness and teaches you skills to manage pain, fatigue and all the emotional stuff that comes with living with a long term condition. What I found most helpful was it motivated me to keep a daily log of exercises to build on, set weekly, realistic action plans and also gave me some great communication techniques with dealing with the medical profession. I wish I had access to this course 13 years ago when I was first diagnosed.

If anyone is interested go the expert patient programme web site and it gives you all the info about the free courses. Check to see if there are any in your area or you an choose to do the course online.

Best wishes
Rebecca

I did the pilot for this a few years ago and it seems like they took the feed back on board.

The original was very americanised and 'mind over matter' and annoying

But some bits, like the fatigue balance and supportive planning for a crisis stuff was really excellent.
Really pleased its been a help :)

Sheila this is the link for you.

Expert Patient Programme

That's interesting Jenni you did the pilot course. The course does originate from America, you will be pleased to know it's not mind over matter rubbish now, I was impressed how motivating and positive it was. It was good to interact with the others too on the course because although we all had different conditions we are all faced with similar challenges in some ways.

I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in learning more about helping yourself manage your R.A.
